If you have driven off road for long you have likely experienced a tire failure while on the trail in the middle of no-where. With just a few extra tools and select parts many of these can be remedied out on the trail. This Tech Session will cover tools and supplies needed along with hands on demonstrations of the techniques required to get your tire inflated so that you can get back on the road.
We will address:
- Chain axle to limit suspension travel
- Plugging a hole/cut
- Breaking the bead and replacing a valve stem
- Reseating a bead via:
- Compressed gas (Using straps, bucket, etc)
- Lighter fluid (Because I have wanted to try this for a while anyway and I might as well do it with an audience!)
- Starter fluid (As Jennifer mentions it seems to be more common... we will see which works better)
- Re-mounting a loose tire after it has come completely off the wheel (just for KW)
- Dynamic tire balancing
Let me know if there is a related topic you would also like to discuss.
Bring a side dish to share and your favorite beverages and I will supply some burgers and dogs and we can grill up lunch when we are done. We can use the burning tire from the lighter fluid experiment gone bad or the BBQ depending on which one is hotter! LOL. Please bring a chair.
