Annual Moab/Green River, UT Trip

Wed May 4, 2016 to Fri May 13, 2016     RIDE COMPLETED

Here are the plans for 2016 Moab/Green River trip.  This year's trip will be in two parts as it was last year, the first will be to Moab  with Guy Conway being our leader.  The second will be a follow on trip to Green River to explore the area around Green River and the San Rafael Swell.  Green River is about 52 miles north of Moab.  Guy Will also be our guide there.  The trails that Guy will lead will be easy to moderate.  We will settle on which trails we will run when we get to Moab.

If there is enough interest and someone to lead harder trails at Moab, we can breakup into a harder trails group also.

This a busy time in Moab so make your reservations as soon as possible.

We will leave for Moab on Wed May 4th and go on rides Thur-Sat May 5-7. In Moab we will headquarter at the Canyonlands RV Park, leaving each day at 9:00am. http://www.canyonlandsrv.com/, 800-522-6848

After Moab, we will then go on to Green River.  Travel May 8th and go on rides May 9-13.  We plan to explore around Green River during the afternoon on the Sun May 8th.  Travel home on Sat, May 14th.  In Green River we will headquarter at the Shady Acres RV Park.  http://www.shadyacresrv.com/, 1-800-537-8674.  For anyone looking for a motel in Green River, the Robbers Roost Motel, 435-564-3452, http://www.rrmotel.com is recommended.  It is an older motel but well kept and reasonably priced.  San Rafael Swell is about 30 miles west of Green River and for years has been considered one of the "undiscovered" natural wonders of the American West. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management, the Swell offers visitors many of the same sights that can be seen in several of Utah's national parks but allows these visitors to enjoy these sights in leisurely solitude.  The runs will be mainly scenery with a low degree of difficulty.  We started to explore this area last year and will continue this year but the trips will be longer.  Be prepared for longer days with 50-60 miles to the trail heads. Plans are explore south of the Interstate 70 toward Hanksville. We could be traveling up 200 miles daily so bring extra fuel if you need it.  There are no gas stations where we be going.  We also will stopping each day 12 -12:15 pm for lunch.  Bring snacks, water, gas and anything else you think you may need.

Both RV parks have cabins also.  Make your reservations early as possible, especially at the Canyonlands RV Park. Canyonlands closes Nov 7 -Mar 1. Each of the RV parks have areas for tents and cabins. This is a busy time of the year for them.  There are also motels in both Moab and Green River.  This year you make reservations on-line for both RV parks.  Go to their websites.

Let the the RV parks know you are with the NM4W or Guy Conway group so we can be together.

Join Guy, Jeanne and I for the Red Cliff Lodge for their excellent Mother's Day Sunday brunch, May 8.  The lodge is located on the banks of the CO river north of Moab on Hwy 128.  We plan to leave the RV park about 8:30-9:00.   Please send me an e-mail if you are going to join us at the brunch.

Please come join us for the entire trip or any days.

For anyone that wants to caravan to Moab, meet at the Home Dept parking lot on Hwy 550 on the way out of Bernalillo at 8:00am on the 4th.  Plans are to stop at Sonya's in Farmington for lunch.
