Easy Ride Santa Fe - Caja Del Rio

Sun Jul 26, 2026 8:30AM

 Participant Responsibility Notice

New Mexico 4-Wheelers guests and members will be meeting for a group activity as indicated below. Drivers are responsible for the safe operation of their own vehicles and should evaluate obstacles based on their own comfort and experience level and vehicle capability.

This is a volunteer recreational activity. Participants are responsible for their own safety, vehicle operation, and compliance with land-use rules.

This is a mostly easy journey across the southern portions of the Caja del Rio plateau, including Tsinat Mesa, Las Tetillatas, and some hills along the border of SFNF, BLM, and State of NM properties. A couple of hills will present the most challenging sections, the more difficult one has an easy bypass (this is the only moderate part). Pinstriping is possible. Low range, 4 wheel drive, minimum 33" tires recommended, lockers will help.

The terrain here varies from easy dirt road and two-tracks to rocky and rutted, with a few dry arroyo crossings for fun. The southern edge of the plateau opens up to broad grassy and almost featureless stretches, with some awesome views of the surrounding mountains and canyons.

Bring lunch, water, chairs, GMRS radio. Meet at 8:30 to air down, driver meeting at 8:45, hit the trail at 9:00. Total time is around 4 hours, we should be back at the air up spot in time to beat any afternoon thunderstorms.

This is similar to rides we've done last winter, but a different route. See galleries for photos.
