Participant Responsibility Notice
New Mexico 4-Wheelers guests and members will be meeting for a group activity as indicated below. Drivers are responsible for the safe operation of their own vehicles and should evaluate obstacles based on their own comfort and experience level and vehicle capability.
This is a volunteer recreational activity. Participants are responsible for their own safety, vehicle operation, and compliance with land-use rules.
You are cordially invited for ALL or PART of a Thursday night 7/23/2026 through Sunday 7/26/2026 camping and off-roading trip in the Zuni Mts. During the days, we will explore the Zuni trails. The meet up spots will vary, depending upon who plans to join for camping vs day rides, and on what days you can make it out.
Plan for off-road rides Friday, Saturday, and a shorter ride on Sunday. Plan to hit trails by 9 AM. I have capped the ride number at 10, but mostly for camping. However if off-roaders are coming out just for the day rides, I will modify the allowed numbers to accommodate day riders.
The plan is to camp at at an established campground in the Zuni's that is FREE, or at a nearby dispersed site if camp sites are not available. Access to the camp is a maintained forest road. From ABQ to the campground is a 2 hour journey. I have towed my teardrop camper to this location before. Smaller overland / off-road trailers could be accommodated. I would be reluctant to tow a larger setup. Vault toilets are located at this camp site, making the restroom experience a bit easier. Expect to carry in and out everything else you need. Camping is not required for those who do not camp. Camping is encouraged for those who want more experience camping. The campsite details will be provided individually to those that sign up or show interest. Camp plans may also change depending on who signs up; i.e. if only mobile overlanding people sign up, then we could camp anyplace that peaks our fancy.
Cell service does not exist at the planned campsite. I will have our Starlink to make contact with NM4W members, to coordinate individual arrival and departures, and/or arrange daily ride meet ups for those not camping. Periodic cell phone reception will be available during the rides.
The nearest gas stations are 20-28 miles from the camp, in Grants. We will plan accordingly to refuel - when ride points exit closer to town - however I recommend you bring extra fuel as needed.
