Participant Responsibility Notice
New Mexico 4-Wheelers guests and members will be meeting for a group activity as indicated below. Drivers are responsible for the safe operation of their own vehicles and should evaluate obstacles based on their own comfort and experience level and vehicle capability.
This is a volunteer recreational activity. Participants are responsible for their own safety, vehicle operation, and compliance with land-use rules.
Having you been itching for some overlanding? I certainly have. The trails in the Zuni mountains are easy to moderate, with fantastic and beautiful areas to explore. I have bookmarked great spots for potential camping ALL over these mountains. Specific route and details to be decided based upon who signs up. The plan is for two days of exploring the Zunis, along with an overnight in the forest. We will find a great camp and enjoy a night of cooking, campfire, and good company.
I anticipate a meet time for 9 AM on Saturday 11/7/2026 near Grants. Specific location to be decided based on route and camping plan. Also an option: Come for day trips on Saturday or Sunday, or stay to camp.
Cell service is spotty in the Zunis. I will have our Starlink to make contact with NM4W members, to coordinate individual arrival and departures, and/or arrange daily ride meet ups for those not camping.
Rig Requirements:
- Stock, overland, and juiced-up 4x4 rigs all welcome. AWD is a no go, you must have a low range transfer case.
- Rigs need to be in good working condition.
- Good off road tires. A spare. A flat repair kit isn't a bad idea either.
- Tow points front and rear.
- Recovery gear.
- Air compressor to air up tires
- Spare fuel should be considered. The plan is for two days in 4WD high / low range but obviously you will need to anticipate your typical fuel needs. I will be carrying extra fuel.
- GMRS radios required... but I do have a few extra if you do not have one.
- Also, be aware that brush marks, pin-stripping and body damage is always a possibility. There also may still be mud from the rains, waiting to ride home on your rig.

Participant Requirements:
- Participants must be self sufficient for this run. We will be rig or tent camping along the journey in a primitive camping environment.
- Bring water & food. A way to cook your food, if need be!
- Having warm clothing, shoes, bedding, and heating plan for the night. We have entered the chilly time of year.
- Tread Lightly: Pack it in / pack it out. Have a trash and POOP plan!
- Not required but would be good for comfort: Camp chair, flashlights, campfire supplies, games, stories to share, etc.
