Tajique-Torreon Loop

Sat Oct 21, 2017 9:30AM     RIDE COMPLETED

Meeting point is the gas station in Tajique, NM. This is a short ride to view some fall colors in the Manzano Mountains southeast of Albuquerque. We'll start the run in Tajique, head to the Fourth of July Campgrounds on County Road A013, and end the ride in Torreon.

This heavily-wooded route, commonly referred to as the Tajique-Torreon Loop, is a 14-mile Forest Service road between Tajique and Torreon. The road begins in a pinyon/juniper forest, ascends through pine forests, and peaks with fir/spruce at the highest elevation of the trail.

This road is navigable by a stock 4X4 with good off-road tires. Front & rear hitch points and a CB radio is recommended. Please bring some warm clothes and plenty of water. Hope you can join us on this 4X4 trip!

Note: Since this is a short ride, I added an optional run to Capilla Peak once Tajique-Torreon Loop is finished. From Torreon, we’ll drive 7 miles south to Manzano, NM and then drive 10 miles to Capilla Peak on County Road BO65. This ride requires some precision driving on steep mountain roads. Please bring a sack lunch if you plan on joining this afternoon ride.
