NM4W members spent 10 months planning an epic adventure. Jack & Cathy Dickey, Doug Elkins, Mary Turpin, Willy Crawley (and his BFF Ron Tennyson), spent four amazing days on the Rubicon. There were bears, mosquitos, a trail full of 'Yota Landcruisers, and all the rock crawling we could want! There were some challenges along the way, but with typical NM4W grit and teamwork we got it done. There will be trail reports in the August edition of Trail Tales.
The Rubicon Trail requires absolute commitment. The first half is soild rock crawling from the Loon Lake trail head all the way to Observation Point above Rubicon Springs. There's nothing quite like starting days 1 through 3 with hubs locked, t-case in low, and lockers engaged! The second half, mileage wise, past Observation Point is still 4-wheel drive, but much easier and transitioning to easy dirt road until reaching pavement at the McKinney trail head.
