Saturday evening began sizzling and ended in comfort. With a big turnout expected, our trail leader built in extra time for what’s usually a quick spin around the Cedro Peak lookout tower. Applicants and guests came prepared—waivers in hand, rigs fueled, and smiles ready—so after the driver’s meeting, we were set to roll.
Not five minutes in, a rig tapped out with a dashboard warning light, and before long, a split sidewall had another crew swapping tires like a pit team under the pines. Once patched up, we tackled FR 13, threading our way through rocky stretches that begged for careful line-picking—and maybe even a little locker action for those equipped.
We paused high on the trail, savoring the cooling air as the sun dipped low, waiting for the full moon to rise. But with clouds stealing the show, we pressed onward, enjoying the now-cooler temperatures as we bounced our way down FR 532 toward the air-up point just shy of Juan Tomas Road.
Every mile delivered a little challenge, a lot of camaraderie, and plenty of laughs—proof again that the Cedro Peak Full Moon Ride is always worth the trip.
