Well the day's forecast was 48% chance of rain. However, When we all met at the Allsup's in Cuba it was all sunny and the skies were blue. There were clouds in the sky that made it a beautiful morning.
We took off on time and the drive into the mountains was a nice easy drive on the pavement to the turn off point.
We all aired down in a nice area with green grass and trees all around. The dirt road was NOT dusty at all. We did the long loop to all the areas listed in the description. It started to threaten to drop moisture but it seemed we just kept ahead of the rain as we went. On he first part of the journey, we were looking at all the life. There were plants and birds and rocks and things, There was sand and hills and rings. Anyone remember the band America and a song called "Horse with no name"?
Anyway, The day was filled with lots of scenery and bold fall foliage. We ran through a number mud holes, saw lots of cows and birds. It was nice to be out of the city, under the city lies a heart made of ground. But humans give no love. You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name. It felt good to be out of the rain. In the desert you can remember your name cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain.
At one point we stopped that the pit stop cabin and did some photos of the area. As we looked around I began to wonder about the hunters or ranchers that once used this place as a resting place or a bovine wrangling area. It was obvious that it hadn't been used in a while. If you look at the photos, the inside of the cabin and the accompanying outhouse it was very run down and not maintained at all.
Near the end of the trip we all stopped once again at Teapot (teakettle) rock and wondered about "Paul Bunyan". Then the skies opened up and down came the big rain drops with a slight mix of pea sized hail. We ran to our vehicles to get out of the rain. Here comes the rain again, Falling on my head like a memory. Falling on my head like a new emotion. Anyone remember Annie Lennox, Dave Stewart and the Eurythmics?
The trails were rated Easy to Moderate. All-in-all it was a good ride. No major issues, no flat tires, no one got stuck in the mud holes. Some places were rocky and bumpy.
I do have to say that we didn't see the falls though. I was a bit dismayed by that fact.
