I was graced by the trust of 15 vehicles to lead them back into Pecos again – only this time in reverse. We started in Macho Canyon this time and began the trail ride with a group of deer coming down to the church and greeting us. As we made it into the forest, we have a vehicle issue with a front drivetrain and they had to leave us and head back to Albuquerque. Luckily they had 2WD to help get them home safely. We followed the August 30th Pecos run trail and it was filled with more amazing views (see the gallery for pictures). We had a request to stop and look at the area that seems to attract an abundance of vehicles taking the wrong route and going down the side of the hill. We later came to find out that spot has been featured on YouTube for a recovery (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gZtDcH9g70). We met up with hunters in the area and saw several of them tag out – most exciting catch was a bear! Fortunately for me, I only had one transgression this time and it was followed by lots of laughs and camaraderie over the radio. Mud was abundant and mad the ride just as fun as before – although we had a rig have some engine cooling issues on the interstate and we made pitstop at the carwash to remedy the issue (sort of). We also had a couple of rigs go through the automatic carwash and try and take some mud off. It was an amazing ride with shelf roads on the burn scar and I cannot wait for the Spring to arrive to do it again.
