This easy to moderate ride was a holiday weekend adventure, exploring the south-eastern Zuni Mountains, near Grants, NM. On this day after Christmas we had 6 rigs, 10 people, and 7 dogs.
We were greeted by fog in the morning, but as soon as we made it onto the Zuni plateau, we found ourselves above the clouds. We encountered grated forest roads in between the paths less traveled, including several more challenging paths. We saw views for days... Mt Taylor, the distant peaks, the surrounding valleys, forests with deer and cows, and even ran with a majestic herd of elk. There were LOTS of cool rocks to see. Old mines abound in the region, and we stumbled across a few. We explored (in no particular order) the suspected namesake of the Lime Kiln area, Mt Sedgwick burn scar and peak, Quartz Hill region, and canyon areas such as Ojo Redondo, Diener, Coppertown, Rivera, Winslow, Bonita, and Zuni.
