Another awesome day on hard trails at Gordy's! We started the day on Hidden Valley, and everyone cruised up the gatekeeper without any trouble. Next, we moved on to the optional, more extreme Waterfall. Andrew and Amy went up and over in their beast of a YJ with hardly a stutter, and a hefty round of applause from the group. Rich was next in his TJ and calmly crushed it on his first try. Both Doug and Mary gave it a strong effort, but their shorter wheel bases on 37's had both of them coming up just short. Maybe next time!
We moved on up to the start of the Yee Haw trail, which has been beckoning out to some in the group for the past few rides. We walked it again and after much discussion, decided that today was the day to put some wheels on it and see what happens. Andrew went first and cleared the first first obstacle with no trouble and moved up to make room and offer a winch point if needed. Rich went next, also having little trouble at the first choke point and we watched as Andrew got up and over the more difficult top part, needing only a couple resets to get over. Rich nailed it on the first try with another hearty round of cheer from the onlookers! Doug went next and kept his momentum up through the lower obstacle, getting through without any help, but came up just short at the top and needed help with the winch to get up.
As this was an unplanned detour and left the top three astray of the entry point to Bad Hair Day, Mary took the lead for that trail and took Janet and Mike Crosby through BHD to meet back up with the others at the intersection of the end of both trails. Thanks, Mary!
We had a long lunch at the beginning of Doug's Dilemma, then changed the order slightly to put Andrew in front, in case a winch was needed. As expected, Doug's gave everyone a bit of a challenge and it took the six rigs and hour and a half just to get to the top (.3 miles). While that was the tougher part, the longer downhill trip forced everyone to keep a sharp focus, with many steep, narrow off camber sections and steep dropoffs.
We returned to kiosk parking area around 3:30 to air up, swap doors and say goodbyes, with everyone already talking about the next trip!
